This Back-to-Basics Photography Exercise can Improve Your Photography

October 19, 2020 By Good Glass Leave a Comment

Modern technology has made it easier for anyone to become a photographer. However, the modern technology has made some people forget the basics. There are several exercises that can help people grasp the basics of photography. Disabling modern camera features can help photographers learn the basics. The camera setup will require shooting monochrome, not looking at visual feedback after each shot, and limit the amount of shots you take. These steps will help simulate what photography was like prior to digital cameras. The steps to complete the exercise are to turn the camera to manual mode, turn autofocus off, determine the right lighting conditions, use a prime lens, determine the number of exposures you have, calculate the exposure, and slow down. These steps will teach photographers to think before they take a photo.

Key Takeaways:

  • It’s hard to learn some of the techniques of photography with the cameras we have now.
  • The cameras take a lot of the work out of it for you, so switching to the basics can help you learn.
  • Going monochrome can actually help you learn things about your camera and photography that you wouldn’t have learned otherwise.

“However, has the ability to snap a picture without skill or knowledge made photography too easy? Even for you reading this article who’ve come to this site to learn more about making better photos – has the ease of making digital photos with modern cameras robbed you of learning the basics?”
